STEM Pod Experience

The STEM Pod experience is available for booking again after undergoing an extensive £438,000 refurbishment with the installation of brand new computers and film technology and a refresh of activities and film to reflect the latest in biomedical research at Queen Mary University of London.

The STEM Pod Experience is a five-scene, 1.5 hour interactive science experience for ages 7 and up. The state-of-the-art immersive show features films, gaming and learning.

The experience is supported by our expert Centre of the Cell Explainers. We also aim to have at least one medical or dental student and/or scientist join each visiting group to answer visitors’ questions about science and careers. We can have up to 40 people (including accompanying adults).

The experience includes KS2 – KS5 curriculum-linked interactive games grounded in cell biology and the research happening in the labs below and around the world (click here to see the National Curriculum links). Many of these games are based on research from Queen Mary’s scientists, and feature them describing their work. The show also involves films projected onto the ceiling of the STEM Pod, which introduce the concepts of cell biology and medical research.

Visitors can also enjoy using microscopes, seeing specimens from the Pathology Museum – such as a real human brain – and will learn about careers in cell biology. They will also debate the ethical issues surrounding medical research.

You can also book a science workshop or show – delivered in Neuron Pod – alongside your STEM Pod experience for the ultimate science trip.
